Great Needs and Great Opportunities in Africa
Dr. Tim Brannagan and Dr. Stacy Rinehart returned to southern Africa to build upon the foundation laid by a vision-casting meeting in September 2007. The theme of great needs and great opportunities is a fitting summary of the team’s time.
MLI in general has been reviewing its core training materials on developing leaders to lead like Jesus. We are aware of the great need to build in more interactive aspects as well as guidelines to implement the principles for the long-term into various contexts. Africa offered a great opportunity to both write and field test this new approach. Tim and Stacy whittled the basic material from 89 pages to 19 pages and developed a Trainer’s Manual which complements and adds to the basics.
In Johannesburg, God has been working in the hearts and lives of pastors representing a cross section of Christian communities. They are feeling the great need to align their leadership practices more with Scripture and less with culture. The result of repentance and renewal by encountering Christ’s transformational leadership is a great opportunity to spread this throughout South Africa through an emerging team and additional MLI events in the coming months.
Finally, Tim accompanied Bill Mial, Team Leader of the Africa Regional Office of TransWorld Radio to Malawi to meet with the TWR-Malawi National Director Patrick Semphere. There is a great need for Christ-like leadership development in the nation. The MLI-TWR partnership is a great opportunity to reach 80% of the population with Jesus’ way of leading through radio broadcasts. A team of MLI staff is hard at work writing these presentations. This over-the-air ministry will be accompanied by on-the-ground efforts in late summer.
