Ministry Focused on Developing Leaders in Oral Cultures

Fellow MentorLinkers,

I am attaching a letter from Rick Sessoms announcing his formation of a new ministry called Freedom To Lead International. Once you read this, I believe you will understand that Rick feels called to a new ministry focus. I agree with Rick that this focus could not be done within the MentorLink wineskin and therefore needs its own unique wineskin.

You will also note how much Rick desires to remain in fellowship with us.

I count Rick as a close friend and colleague. I am personally saddened by Rick’s departure from MLI organization (he will remain connected as a partner and Mentor-at-Large) but thrilled that he will be able to focus on his unique contribution to the Kingdom with his Organizational Development expertise and his call to work among the “oral communities” of the world.

The MentorLink Board and I release Rick with our blessings toward this endeavor.

Because of His grace,

Stacy Rinehart
Founder

Dear MentorLink colleagues:
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus.
I am writing today to let you know about some transitions that are taking place in my life and in MentorLink’s ministry.
Since 2002, Stacy and I have been dreaming and laboring together toward the most effective ways to increase the quantity and quality of Christ-centered leaders around the globe. Two years ago, I officially joined the MentorLink team. Since that time, MLI’s ministry footprint has expanded significantly despite the economic challenges that we and many other ministries have faced. One of the most exciting developments during this time has been the launching of the recent Global Mentoring Project in which MentorLink is partnering with the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization to provide mentoring opportunities for thousands of leaders in 200 nations. We are on the verge of something extraordinary! I look forward to continued ministry with MentorLink into the future.
At the same time, I have been increasingly drawn toward two distinctive ministry needs:
1. To develop Christ-centered leaders among people groups that do not, cannot, or will not read. Often referred to as “oral cultures,” these groups of people comprise approximately 70% of the world’s population. Concerted efforts are already underway to evangelize and plant churches in oral societies, but no one is yet developing Christ-centered leaders in these vast populations around the world. To meet this need, a new ministry called Freedom to Lead International is being established; its primary mission is to develop leaders to lead like Jesus in oral societies. This new initiative will focus specifically on populations that need or prefer an oral approach to learning and development rather than one based on conceptual, abstract (literate) thinking.
2. To offer specialized consulting and executive coaching that leads to healthy organizational cultures. Freedom to Lead International will also provide this professional service to organizations that are led by committed Christians.
As Freedom to Lead International takes shape in the months ahead, I intend to remain connected to MentorLink as a mentor-at-large. Ministry alongside MentorLink colleagues is a joy, and my heart’s desire is to continue a personal and ministry relationship with you all.
We are privileged to be living in perhaps the most exciting era of church history. Let’s press toward the purposes of God until that day when He welcomes us home with those words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Sincerely yours,
Rick Sessoms
