“The Holy
Spirit is given to the believer to be and
to do everything in him that God wants him
to be and do. The Spirit is given to him
especially as the Spirit of prayer and supplication.
Is it clear that everything in prayer depends
on our trusting the Holy Spirit to do His
work in us? We must yield ourselves to His
leading and depend only and entirely upon
Him.”

Ask According To His Will
Dec 11, 2009
I have been meditating in 1 John in recent weeks. Today, I spent time praying through two verses reflecting an amazing promise.
“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him (1 John 5:14-15). What is His will? Getting in step with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit on any issue will bring His will to light. Then ask according to His will and the promise stands.
However, it does not say it will be done in our way or in our timing. God is God and does things in ways that confound the wise. He is mysterious in the time and manner which He works.
Think of the prophets of old. They knew the Messiah was coming, longed for that day and prayed for that day. But … no one imagined a lowly peasant girl would be pregnant out of wedlock and she and her fiancé would welcome the birth of the King in a lowly manger surrounded by farm animals. God’s will was accomplished in God’s way and in His time.
So when I pray according to His will, I must be willing to let Him be Lord. But the promise stands – He will hear and we will have the requests we have asked of Him.
Truly, He is worthy of all praise, honor, majesty and worship. Let us seek to understand His will and ask accordingly. Then stand back and watch how and when He answers.
Because He is good, Stacy Rinehart
