“The Holy Spirit is given to the believer to be and to do everything in him that God wants him to be and do. The Spirit is given to him especially as the Spirit of prayer and supplication. Is it clear that everything in prayer depends on our trusting the Holy Spirit to do His work in us? We must yield ourselves to His leading and depend only and entirely upon Him.”

Jesus’ Strategy
I often stand amazed at how we (including me) ignore the words and model of Jesus. We like to think of ourselves as following Jesus – after all He is our Lord.

We all know Jesus prayed and so, as we think of prayer, we think of the times He prayed and the Lord’s Prayer. Because He prayed, we pray and we teach others to pray and we think this is the normal Christian life … to pray.

But how many times in the Gospels does Jesus talk with, question, teach or spend time with his disciples? I can tell you it is multiples of the times Jesus prayed or taught about prayer. In fact most of the chapters in each of the Gospels discuss Jesus interactions with the Twelve and even the references to prayer where the ones the Disciples heard or observed.

So what do we conclude? Could it be that Jesus really wants us to get the point that disciples of Jesus in some way invest in the growth and development of others? Pray about it as you meditate on Jesus’ model and method.

Knowing that He is Lord,
