“The Holy
Spirit is given to the believer to be and
to do everything in him that God wants him
to be and do. The Spirit is given to him
especially as the Spirit of prayer and supplication.
Is it clear that everything in prayer depends
on our trusting the Holy Spirit to do His
work in us? We must yield ourselves to His
leading and depend only and entirely upon
Him.”

Eager for The Cross
May 24, 2010
In reading Mark 10:32-34 today, I was struck by the phrase, “Jesus was walking ahead of them, and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful.” Jesus knew that he was going to Jerusalem and what awaited him there. In fact, he shares this with them in vs. 33-34. Those following knew as well that something bad was going to happen – as it says, they “were fearful.”
But regardless, Jesus was walking ahead of them. He was not reticent but rather, he was eager. Jesus was walking ahead of them excitedly and with a purpose.
My wife and family know that in airports I have what is known as my airport walk, which is fast. I am eager to get to the next plane or to get on with then next step of the journey. I walk fast and I walk ahead. This is what Jesus was doing – walking fast with eagerness for the next phase.
Jesus went to the cross eagerly and not with fear and trembling. He did this for you and me. What joy to think that he was eager to be my substitute for my sin so that through him, I might have life.
Take a few moments to praise Jesus for his death on the cross.
Thankful for His sacrifice, Stacy Rinehart
